Ambitious Medupe aims to be a tech millionaire

In a world where success stories are often told, one man’s journey from zero to hero is truly inspiring.
Meet Thabo Medupe, the founder and director of ALFATEK, trading as Webconnect, a one-stop-shop for all your IT and printing needs in Tonota village.
He aims to join the ranks of tech moguls like Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook Meta, who started from scratch to become a billionaire in the IT and cyber space.
Medupe’s goal is to become a US Dollar millionaire, and he is working tirelessly to make it a reality. His rags-to-riches story is a demonstration of the power of hard work, determination, and innovation.
Growing up in Tonota, Medupe, 39, was just like any other young boy with big dreams.
However, his passion for IT and computer-related courses set him apart. Despite not fulfilling his goal of becoming a teacher, Medupe’s passion for IT only grew stronger. With a little training in servicing and negotiating skills from his days working at Standard Chartered Bank, he embarked on a journey to turn his passion into a career.
In 2009, Medupe bought his first camera, not knowing that it would be the starting point of his successful business.
He started small, with a photocopying and printing shop, strategically located between Tonota College of Education and Letlhabile Junior Secondary School.
Today, his business boasts three computers, a camera, a laptop, and a multi-purpose printing machine. But Medupe’s ambitions do not stop there. His business has diversified to include photography and videography services, and he is being invited to shoot weddings, prize-giving ceremonies and other events.
He initially partnered with a female companion, and they received a government grant of P100 000 to buy equipment.
However, they eventually parted ways and Medupe continued to grow the business on his own. Today, Webconnect Cafe is a hub of activity in Tonota, offering a wide range of services, from printing and secretariat work to events shooting, photography, and videography.
Medupe’s commitment to quality and customer service has earned him a loyal client base. As he looks to the future, Medupe remains focused in his goal.
“I want to take my business to the highest level possible. In five years, I want to be a US Dollar millionaire,” he says. With his determination and innovative spirit, there’s no doubt that Medupe will achieve his goal.
His story serves as an inspiration to young entrepreneurs, showing that with hard work and passion, anything is possible.
