KK speaks out

Author : Kutlwano

Former Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng, formally bid the media fraternity farewell. “KK” as he is affectionately called, joined the BNSC in 1991 as administrative secretary but left before his contract expired in February 2013, saying there was no compatibility between him and the current executive committee. He is still passionate about sport and intends to continue contributing to its development through whatever means. Kemoeng says he is not totally lost to sport as he will continue to serve in regional structures such as the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA), the Zonal Organising Committee tasked to host the Zone VI games as well as serving in the Zone VI executive committee.

He says he had no immediate desire to stand for office in the executive committee of any sporting organisation and most importantly he had no desire to join politics despite rumours. He intends to go into consultancy as he has registered a company, which deals with training and events promotion.

Meanwhile, Kemoeng decries the slow pace of professionalising sports in the country despite efforts and concept papers that were developed to facilitate the process. During his tenure, Kemoeng spearheaded some development projects, among them, acquisition of the Athletes’ Village, Re Ba Bona Ha programme, Botswana Games and the Annual BNSC Sports Awards.
