Stand Out
Author : Lesego Bogatsu
Focusing on weaknesses that we often create, to be a natural orientation for development, is a detour to positive personal growth and innovation.
As argued by Marcus Buckingham, author of this book – Stand Out, businesses’ current preoccupation with innovation is crucial to be captured, studied and established as a conventional morality in a company. He talks about innovation as a very personal thing, emanating from the essense of the unique blend of strengths and talent of an individual.
Every book this New York Times best selling aurthor puts on the shelves gets better and better than the ones before. Remember, this is the man who has given us Strengths Finder Assessment and First Break All The Rules. His arguments in Stand Out are a continuation from his previous publications, and they allow us to create both the mindset and language of focusing on what is right with us. He points out that small innovations that allow for shortcuts are as valuable to a corporation than massive ones. We so often hold back for fear that what we want to do is not big enough or life changing enough…but it is all the little things built up over time that can make a huge difference. What might work well for one person in a certain situation, may just blust off like a bomb if another tries to replicate it in their context.
This is indeed an interesting and insightful read. Please do not be too excited and impatient to reach the last chapter. Take your time, enjoy and do not fast forwad to the end. WARNING: All the strengths series books, including Stand Out, have a sealed code that you must scratch and reveal to check your personal strengths. So it is important that you own a copy.
