Nthakwedi, a game whose winner is determined by the person who reaches an agreed meeting point before the opponent, provides the title to Mponang Witness Ketshabile a.k.a. Gong Master’s 3rd traditional dance solo album. Maybe he entered into a bet with one of his dikoma music rivals and has reached the destination first. If so, congratulations to Gong Master because this is a pleasant offering of 10 tracks. All the songs in this album are good to the ear but the most interesting are Nneelang tsame, Koma, Tau di pedi fela which explains that apart from the “Great Lion” (tautona) the President of the country, there is yet another lion; that of the music industry. This being “The Lion of Song,” Tau ya koma – Gong Master himself. “Please do not misconstrue and misinterpret the message to mean that he is pompous and disrespectful to the President, ke mpa ke feta ka poko fela” (I am merely being poetic), says Gong Master. The other beautiful tune is Borethe. This is a local album worth buying.
