Author : Pako Lebanna
On January 4, 1974 Zoology degree holders Mark and Delia Owens headed off to Botswana to do field research.
They ended up staying in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) for 7 years, living amongst lions, hyenas, jackals, and other wildlife species.
Cry of the Kalahari is about the landmark findings about the lives and behaviors of these animals.
Originally published in the 1980s, it has been re-printed in a more modern cover by Mariner Books, available to local readers at Exclusive Books.
With their studies, they pioneered groundbreaking conservation work, Even to those less interested in non-fiction issues of wildlife and conservation, the book could prove a quality read, as it is well written and gives a story of people used to urban comforts living in the wild.
The Owens` writing style leads one chapter into another which keeps the reader glued throughout.
But local readers may find some of the Owens` writing patronizing set in the minds of Westerners with a hint of prejudice. ENDS
