Is your heart in the right place?
If this title prompted you to revisit your biology textbook or if it caused you to position your hand under your left breast to check, then we might just have a slight problem that may require urgent attention. This question begs a deeper understanding of the untold capacity of this muscle. In all its vulnerability and its capacity to properly function, even as it carries a load of responsibility, to pump life sustaining liquid, to carry a hefty load of emotions and still remain indestructible, is beyond what you and I can fully fathom. Can you honestly say that your heart is in the right place? Be mindful of WHEN you do WHAT you do, WHERE you do it and WHY you do it as well as HOW you do it…..for your heart will always keep you in check-subconsciously or otherwise!!!!!
Our hearts mirror who we are, and the way we respond to everyday situations tells us about who we are…that is why the bible cautions us to guard our hearts. I must add, that I learn a lot about ‘me` everyday…. my response to danger, fear, discomfort, joy and a whole lot of other emotions, I see what brings out the best and the worst in me, which is hidden in my heart!
The heart will never lie… and arguably, what is in the heart will be displayed by the work of your hands. I must add that sometimes what we see on the outside may not always be what is in the inside, because people can pretend, but ultimately people`s colors show. What is done on the outside, if not genuine, will show with time. Proverb: 3:3 says: Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart. Now you see why it`s important that your heart be in the right place?
Be vigilant of the fact that in all that you do, your heart is in the right place. Be it in relationships, do not allow yourself to love another if your heart is not in the right place, the relationship will bear fruit produced out of selfish ambition. If it is at work, the services you provide, if you haven`t the love for what you do, and you do not discipline you heart there will be issues that you have to deal with. Do not do things amiss, do not give of yourself out of obligation, it will burden you because the effort is not an act of true and heartfelt willingness. Whatever situation that may have caused your heart to be displaced, deal with it as soon as NOW. It will bring peace and joy in the ultimate. Learn to tame your heart, teach it to love again, to hope again, and allow it to heal or mend if there be any brokenness. Scrape off the jealousy, strife, negativity, greed; selfishness and bitterness, which will cloud your hearts capacity to BE all that it can possibly be. If these are left unattended, the heart will choke, harden, and the only fruit you will reap from it will be an untold ugliness.
God looks at your heart, when you do what you do, when you do it and how you do it…be it giving, helping others etc. It`s not the good deed that makes you a better person, it`s your heart that will qualify you or disqualify you. Guard your heart. If it is not in the right place, keep it in check.
Sometimes friendships and relationships fail, not because they weren`t meant to be, but people fail to look at the core of their beings, one is always quick to blame the other, we all have shortcomings, we need to deal with what is in our hearts, and tame our hearts, and if there is something bad, fix it, deal with it, find closure if you have to, talk about it, pray about it, heal it. Never for a moment think can you hide anything in your heart forever, it will take root, it will bear fruit, it will rot, and it will crack you open and break you.
When you harden your heart to what is, and should be, you literally shut off your life`s supply of good things in life. sometimes the reason we struggle at various levels in our path of life be it spiritual, emotional, psychological etc…. is because our hearts are not in the right place and we struggle to receive blessings from God even though He has freely given them, or even in the least comprehend the magnitude of the blessing before us because a lot of darkness remains embedded in our hearts, more so that good cannot possibly thrive and live. It is chocked and suffocated and unbeknown to us we live in darkness; though we think we are in the light.
We cheat, we lie, we pray amiss, we kill, we curse, hurt others in unfathomable ways (whether willingly or otherwise) we are angry all the time, we are bitter, we wish ill of other people. Really! Is that a good life to live? If that is you then you need to have your heart checked. Not by a physician, by you! And let it be in the right place. and when your heart is in the right place, you will do things because you want to do them not out of obligation, but out of purpose., you will do good effortlessly, you won`t be burdened by doing good, you will repel ‘bad` and your heart will be a hub of ‘perfect possibility` in all respects.
The test of our faith begins in our hearts. We know in our hearts if we are right with God or not. The heart can deceive you sometimes, but one thing`s for sure you cannot deceive your heart. Keep your heart in check. Get right with God, you don`t need to try hard to do good things, they should happen almost naturally, for many have tried to be good, they grow weary at one point, not because they are bad people, but their hearts where never better placed to begin with. God looks at your heart, not the work of your hands. Search within your heart and ask yourself every day, is my heart in the right place.
Someone once said “if your heart is in the right place, your feet will arrive at the right place” So again I shall ask, is your heart in the right place? Deal with that and then allow yourself to breathe and let live, your destiny awaits you. God bless!
