A TENDER CONSCIENCE
Author : Russ Molosiwa
As one of the most respected motivational speaker Joel Osteen says, YOUR CONSCIENCE is often called the compass of the soul.
It works like an inward monitor, similar to an alarm.
When you are about to do something that is not beneficial or something that will get you into trouble, your conscience causes you to feel uneasy.
Do not ignore that warning. That is your conscience helping you to know right from wrong.
One of the best friends you can ever have is your own conscience.
We can avoid a great deal of trouble and heartache if we maintain a more tender conscience. I hear people say all the time, “I know I shouldn`t do this, but …” or “I know I shouldn`t say this, but …” or “I know I shouldn`t buy this, but …”
They know what they should do. The alarm is going off. They can feel a sense of disapproval but they choose to disobey their own conscience. Some day they will look back and recognise how God tried to warn them again and again.
Do not make the mistake of overriding your conscience. Respect it. Just as you respect your superior or someone else with authority over you, learn to treat your conscience in the same way.
God will use your conscience to help lead you and keep you out of trouble.
Perhaps you are in a conversation with your spouse, and things are heating up. You can feel getting aggravated, wanting to continue the argument more forcefully, when suddenly that inner alarm goes off.
Something down inside says, Let it go. Keep the peace.
That is your conscience trying to keep you out of trouble. That is God trying to warn you. Too many times we ignore it and choose to do our own thing.
We end up having a big argument and getting all upset, ruining the rest of the evening. It could have been avoided if we could have paid attention to what our conscience was trying to say to us.
Learn to be sensitive.
Stop when your conscience says stop. Quit having to have the last word. Pay attention to what you are feeling inside, and do not override your own conscience.
When you feel uncomfortable down inside, pull back and pay attention to what God is trying to say to you. You may be in the middle of a conversation.
All of a sudden the alarm goes off, and you know you need to zip up your lips or walk away. Do not ignore that warning from your conscience.
You may be ready to buy something or eat something or make some less than noble plans when that inner siren goes off. If you learn to be sensitive and listen to your conscience, God will keep you out of trouble.
He will help you make good decisions. He can protect you from danger.
When you live an obedient life, God`s blessings will chase you down and overtake you. When you obey, you cannot outrun the good things of God.
God does not expect you to change overnight. He is not going to be disappointed with you or write you off if you do not turn your life around in a week`s time.
No, all He asks is that you keep making progress. He does not want you to be at this same place next year.
He will lead you in His own special way, and if you are sensitive and do your best to keep your own conscience clear, God will be pleased, and He will release more of His blessings into your life.
God meets us at our own level. I do not have to keep up with you, and you do not have to keep up with me.
I just have to be true to my own conscience. I know the areas in which God deals with me most frequently, and I do my best not to go against my own conscience.
That is what I am challenging you to do as well Have a nice day! Ends
