Hello 2014…
Author : Otshidile Onkabetse
The New millennium began exactly 14 years ago, I don`t know how much significance you draw from this reality, but I believe it`s more than just another year into the year 2014, but we have just reached a 14 year mark!! And we made it. The effects of global warming can`t put us down; the previous year`s experiences never broke us in pieces; Life`s challenges in varying magnitudes brought out the best and the worst in us; The tears you cried may have filled an ocean; the amount of joy you experienced may have seemed deficient, but by The Lords Grace we are here and that`s what matters. So I want you to look at yourself in the mirror and smile, don`t worry about the worn out army clothes (because you`ve been in various battles) or the scars ....just say Hello 2014, I`m ready for you!!!
Its second nature to want to take a look back at where we have been, either in wanting to go back to the ‘good old days` or just taking a final look at your past before you step into a new season. Whatever reason you may have, don`t waste time looking too far back at what has already passed, it will not come back, you can`t turn back the hands of time, you can`t relive the ‘good old days`.
It`s time to move forward, and have a mindset that will catapult you to embracing change and actualizing it. it may seem like the hardest thing you can ever do, but you have to do it, because you do not want to create a breeding ground for a stagnant pace and monotony in any area in your life. A new year usually brings in an element of necessity to closing chapters, beginning new ones and continuing others. It`s a new year, a new season to start over, for some it`s time to continue where you left off or to put an end to one chapter.
In the Bible, Ecclesiastes: 3:1 reads ‘To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: It won`t always rain and pour, however long it takes, rest assured that season has its end. Often times in the vernacular we loosely say ‘Go tla siama`, translated: ‘it`s going to be okay` and we seldom understand the power behind these words, so we just throw them at people in an effort to make them feel better. That shouldn`t be the case. Start to ‘mean` what you say and ‘say what you mean`. On that note, saying ‘Hello 2014` shouldn`t be words that merely come out of your mouth, these words should become a present reality of a beauty that comes with every season.
Do not allow yourself to step into this year still the same, it starts with the willingness to want to do things better and the actions to make that a reality will follow.
Stop procrastinating and living aimlessly year in year out; let this New Year bring something different. Allow yourself to become the best person that you can be.
If you tried and failed the previous year to achieve a few of your set individual goals, now is the chance to try again and do things the right way if you missed the mark before. Don`t beat yourself up, it`s a waste of precious time which God has lavishly given us, but we are mortal beings and living regretful lives should not be our portion lest we be caught unawares.
I`m not saying a new season begins only with the New Year; not at all…can a new season begin at any moment? Yes! it most certainly can. The moment you decide you want to see change or growth in your life…. Take that step…that is a new season you are stepping into. We all make mistakes but we all deserve a second chance.
This year is Gods way of giving you a second chance. Take it. Use it. Live it… this season of this New Year!
If you have any addictions, or habits to shake off, acknowledge them and seek help.
Leave no room for shame or finger pointing. We all have the capacity to make good choices in life even if we were experts at making only the wrong ones. If you have any baggage, pack it all in a bag of prayer to God and throw it in the sea of forgetfulness. Pray hard and live a life of total surrender to God, who said ‘those who labour and are heavy laden should come unto Him and He will give them rest. You will have peace amidst your storms however heavy they may come. You will have His peace that surpasses all understanding.
Stop making excuses based on the past seasons that have over passed and gone!! And get on with your life, what happened yesterday shouldn`t be allowed to happen today and tomorrow! You may not have been able to change what happened in a previous season but you can begin a new season with the right attitude. Now you have no excuse, just smile and wave and step into the new season of 2014.
So ‘Hello Reality hub reader…. and oh Hello 2014 …let`s make this one a great one to remember! It`s another year over and the most clichéd phrase we are bound to hear is ‘compliments of the new season`.
I always prefer a simple ‘happy New Year`. Hold my hand and I yours lets live this season to the max- Botshelo bo kgonwa ka go thusana! Tonnes of blessings! ENDS
