MUSIC REVIEW -- PART I
Author : Lesego Bogatsu
Artist: DIPOKO STARS
Album: LE TIMA BANA
Produced by: KUZZIE KUMAKILE
Recorded at: DARGIE DIGITAL STUDIOS
This mixed languages package will for a moment get you thinking that Lubumbashi Stars are back in town and somewhere around the corner. These six tracks are surely sing along hits. The beat is so pleasant and can change your cool dancing style to a crazy waist jostling one. Tswa Mo Tseleng, Le Tima Bana, Kedi, Koloi-Bojalwa, Re Tshelelang and Re Bina Monate are some of the songs in this album. Le Tima Bana is a very important track that talks to parents, teenagers, teachers and the message is a crucial one to be heard by everyone. It speaks of the ills that are brought about by poverty and sometimes greediness of wanting too much money for nice time.
Artist: M`CHAUF
Album: SAEKHO
Produced by: E.J
Written by: JOEL THOMPSON
First and foremost, the sleeve cover of M`Chauf - chaffy chaffeny is not appealing. The photograph isn`t professionally shot, it is squashed and not creatively placed. The use of too much auto-tune makes the songs difficult to rate. Having said so however, Saekho is a danceable album with the following nine tracks – Minanawe, Saekho, number One Lady, Zwakala, Jelas-Mona, Lethabo, Minanawe (carribean mix), Jelas-Mona (kgafela mix) and Black Mafia which is a bonus track. Packaging and presentation is crucial in any industry you can think of. First impressions last.
Artist: MANTSHWABISI
Album: KEA BELAELA
Composed by: KAGO & KAGISO
Produced by: CABIDO
Although the album is not a hit like this duo`s debut - Mantshwabisi, there are a few tracks to look out for which have beautiful beats and palatable lyrics such songs are; O Lesole, Kea Belaela and Kgomo Ya Metsi remix… these tracks are worth listening to. The twins will have to do more to survive in this competitive genre since local music has become so competitive. Some cynics were not convinced with their average and fair involvement in the music cycle, but this time around Moses twins will surely move heads and will stay as a duo not joining other groups. It is a good thing that Kago and Kagiso reappear as a new branded group. Get yourself this CD to go on top of your music collection.
