Global crisis and personal crisis

Author : Russ Molosiwa

The world we live in is full of sad news. If you don`t believe what I am saying, just pick up a newspaper. If after reading it you are still in doubt turn on your TV and you will notice that almost all headlines are sad news. The earth we live in is always hit by crisis. Many of us are also in crisis as I write this article.

Anyone who pays attention at all to human events here and abroad is aware that the global society is in turmoil of unprecedented proportions. We face many global challenges that we can`t solve.  The United Nations was formed after the World War II for purpose of preventing future wars.

Sixty years of its existence, there have been more wars than in all the recorded human history.  So even our best and most well intentioned attempt to prevent ourselves from killing each other has failed. In this issue I wish to examine the following questions, what constitutes a “crisis”? How bad does a situation have to be?  What crisis are you in right now?

Let me start by the definition of the word Crisis. One has to be quick to admit that what constitute a crisis to you may not be crisis to me. That is a fact. Crisis is an event over which one has no control. Crisis is an experience that you did not anticipate.

It always takes you by surprise and fills you with anxiety. Let`s say the weather forecast says that a hurricane kana kwanyepi kana merwalela is coming. Rona ba Palapye we know that could be serious weather forecast.  As soon as we get such a report, we are forced to priorities: Your visits plans change. You always make sure that when a crisis hits, you and your family will be safe. KANA the doctor says, “You`ve got three weeks to live if you don`t change your habits”. He is not joking. All of sudden, you get motivated to change.

This is a crisis.  You may not be able to avoid all of the consequences of your eating habits but you will probably clean up your act. Crisis forces the issue. You cannot control the crisis that has come upon you but you can begin to control some of the details of your predicament. You can make some headway against it Later on; you may even be able to appreciate the crisis for forcing you to change. Morwalela cleans things up, it takes things with it.

Jesus said we will always have troubles (see John16:33) One crisis after another will come our way as long as we live, regardless of how well-insulated we try to make ourselves. It is important know how to overcome our emotional responses to difficulties.

If we can regain our emotional footing in a storm, we will be able to overcome. First we need to put our feet on the Rock-solid foundation of God. A Crisis produces some or all of the following emotional responses in us: Fear, Trauma, Depression, Despair, Frustration, Anxiety, Loneliness, Worry, Hopelessness,

Final we can be consumed by any of the following states of mind: A sense of abandonment, a sense of loss, a sense of death, an urgency for survival.

Being fearful makes people respond in a knee-jerk fashion to a crisis and they may set up a cycle of negative consequences, such as   Abuse, Crime Domestic violence, Substance abuse.

These reactions set people up for further crises; you probably know what I`m talking about. This fast-spreading economic disease called “recession” may be causing many of our personal crises. Or adding to the crises we already have.  One crisis piles on top of another. The system of the world`s kingdom is collapsing. The world is filled with fear.  The leaders do not know what they can or should do.  A lot of decisions are based on theories rather than experience.

We do not know yet if the experiments will work. The world economic system is spinning out of control. Powerful people are powerless to stop the breakdown. Allow me to stop her today. In the next issue I will talk about the blame game. Ends
