A Tale of ÔÇÿStolen Boyfriends
Author : Mothusi Soloko
While travelling from Jwaneng back to his home village of Thamaga recently, Balekanye Marumo offered a lift to a beautiful lady he found hiking by the roadside.
On the way, a furtive glance at his passenger assured Marumo -a primaryschool teacher in Jwaneng - that she was young, gorgeous, and irresistible.
There was a short break for lunch in Kanye, and what a perfect moment for the outwardly amorous teacher to further assess this young and impressive lady.
And guess what, before long an illicit love affair between the two strangers had developed.
“While we ate at Chicken Licken she looked at me straight in the eyes and the resulting spark left me hapless,”
Marumo says in an interview with Kutlwano.
When he learnt she was a fresh graduate from Limkongkwin University, his lust deepened.
Not only was she gorgeous, he says,“she listened attentively and seemed to beinterested in what I was saying. She had this hypnotic and innocent smile I could not resist, and as a man what could I have done,” he asks amidst bursts of laughter.
The school teacher says for a moment he was lost in this young lady’s ambiance.
Not even the fear of being seen by any wrong person, particularly the mother of his daughter, Maipelo Mosanako, bothered him.
In any case, wasn’t Maipelo now a bit older, boring and too formal, he justified, more in defence of his cheating action than anything else.
Ever imagined why men cheat on their beautiful wives?
There are many reasons of course but if you thought it was the work of dark smelly muti from a Malawian traditional doctor, or prayers from a powerful international pastor, you may be wide of the mark.
Though it is hard to believe, the little things that women exhibit in terms of body language may be the magic wand in as far as weakening and stealing a man’s heart is concerned.
For instance, Marumo says the young graduate’s body posture, smile, innocent eye contact, attention, and jokes, did the trick.
Though Maipelo, a nurse at ThamagaPrimary Hospital, felt cheated, she too had doubts about her age and body.
She feared her body had changed due to pregnancy, hence her man’s attitude.
Truth be told, it is normal these days to come across a cat fight of women because one accuses the other of stealing their man.
A certain former American first lady knows better how deceitful some women can be.
The former first lady nearly lost her husband to a state house intern some years ago, according to media reports.
Recently at Block Three Shopping Centre in Gaborone traffic was brought to a halt, while the entire neighborhood watched in amazement as one woman beat the hell out of another for allegedly stealing her man.
Thomas Mosiga, a bank employee, say she was also ‘stolen’ by his current girlfriend.
When it started, little did he know that the innocent compliments in the workplace would result in a head over heels affair.
“She was my boss - still is - and she used to give me compliments when I had done something good and bit by bit my love for her grew, and, much as I tried to hide it, it found its way out through the walls and now we are living happily together,” says Mosiga.
He adds that the affair could never have come at the right time when he was experiencing problems with her previous girlfriend. “We fought a lot, and my newfound consoled me every time I came home with bruises,” he says, adding tha the later realised that her boyfriend was also abusive.
He says they are now enjoying a healthy relationship, and, like Maurmo, a woman who listens and offers compliments where they are due easily steals his heart.
Mosiga’s colleague, who prefers anonymity, has been ‘stolen’ at least twice.
Like his friend, he says it is not the big things that attract a man to a woman but just the little things that are usually taken for granted.
“This one was my junior at work and she was flirting too much; she always kept me entertained with nice jokes,” he says gesturing to a beautiful lass beside him.
He adds; “I found myself craving for her company to the extent of inviting her to join me,” adding that that was when he was ‘stolen’ for the first time.
While the first theft seems like a story that one can buy, the second sounds more like an act of irresponsibility.
He was invited to a party by his current girlfriend and he spent the night there.
“I found myself sandwiched between women in one bed and she was the first one to wake up.
I liked her naked body and the care that she gave me the following day.
We had a delicious breakfast together under the backyard veranda and took several photos.
At midday we dipped into the swimming pool and the rest is history,” he says.
So there aren’t enough options here, although you can scream, or sob hysterically,or visit a traditional doctor from Malawi to bring back your lost lover, or better still, you too can learn the trick and steal one heart for yourself instead of wallowing in self-pity like Maipelo.
