Is it worth it...?

e all need a sit down with ourselves and ponder over the path we chose to tread in life. I`m sure if a movie were to be done about us with a voice over thrown in at every high and low moment or simple interjectory remarks after a good/bad decision and its outcome. Maybe during a watershed moment in your life text would appear on the screen to ask ‘Is it worth It` and give you ample time to respond before your life events play on again....now that wouldn`t be a very friendly movie now would it?

If ever we took the time to think about whether the things we do are really worth it, by and large we would save other people and ourselves the frustrations of life. Of course some things may be inevitable but, some things require of us instantly applied wisdom especially when temporary insanity looms. This question should really beckon you to perceive life differently, to see just how many chances in life we have to do right and apply our heart`s unto wisdom like the bible puts it, yet we become too excited, too impulsive and just too busy that even a second to spare in thought about the possible repercussions of our actions is seldom given the time of thought. This is crucial! We have to be more attentive to our inner voice because our spirit man speaks the loudest yet we drown his voice with the clatter in our lives.

There`s a laundry list of things we do that aren`t really worth it yet somehow the mind and heart can deceive you into believing for a moment that it is okay to do what you know you shouldn`t. Is a sensual moment of bliss worth losing the spouse you vowed to commit to for better or for worse? taking what doesn`t belong to you in a desperate moment of need only has ugly consequences, using your state of fame to do despicable things that would only bring dishonor and disrepute when the light shines on them isn`t really worth it. Say whatever you decide to do brings with it temporary joy or some form of gratification... is it really worth losing your family over? Your friendship circle which you may never regain back? your reputation in the church and among Gods people, will the world around you still see you in the same light when what you gave lee way to now comes back to bite you in the face? Is it really worth it? Do you want to look at yourself in the mirror one day and wish you hadn`t done this and that because it really wasn`t worth it? Are you prepared now to stop reading this article because I`m stepping on your toes and you really do not have the time or day to listen to a perfect stranger caution you about life and that fact that what goes around always comes back around?

I`m not a woman of many words, but I often see people do things that have left me distraught and wondering if this person really thought  they would get away with it? I have been doing life for 20 plus years and some people have been doing life for lesser or more years than I, in all these cases the life experience gained are invaluable and should never on any grounds be underestimated or taken for granted. Let us not merely go through challenges brought about by our own hesitations, but let us learn from them. Let us learn to question every action we make and apply wisdom to every decision and always answer the question is it worth it?  We have all in small and big ways said things and done things that in hindsight proved to be unnecessary yet we cannot take it back. We then realize that the thought of doing things right which could have attracted a better consequence did dawn on us for a second yet we dismissed it. I also would like to point out my own flawed nature to say I`m not just talking about other peoples shortcomings, but my very own which in hindsight on several occasions have left me wondering why and how I could`ve been so irresponsible!

now speaking of being irresponsible and how some things are just not worth it, allow me to talk about the defilement of a child that has left the nation distraught, not merely because the so called Sebina Saga made headlines, but that this very issue actually points to the many other sagas that didn`t make it to the newspapers nor did they trend on the social media platform.

Now an open letter to those who are perpetrators of sexual abuse on children: Is it really worth it? Now I won`t hold my tongue on this one because it beats me how an adult could possibly think a sexual encounter with a child could be worth it. How do moments of what an irresponsible person called bliss possibly be worth ruining the life of one so innocent? This worthless encounter now leaves a contusion on a child`s future, the child`s family, and the child`s country. This child mind you, is supposed to be a leader who in their own right would`ve soared higher, much higher than the eagle in the sky, now a worthless act has denied this bird its gliding glory. Time would fail me to unpack the intricacies of this issue and how it plays out not only in the life of this child but in the generations she will bring forth. Not only that but now perpetrators who live among us have created a breeding ground for many like them who have given such horrendous acts ‘worth` as to now label them fashionable. This is absurdity!

I could  spend all day trying to liberate you from the snares of unfortunate circumstance that loom every time the question of whether one should say or do something comes up. Everything has consequences whether in the long or short term. I leave it to you now to think about your life and the lives of those around you, see the no man is an island philosophy also applies in such instances where our actions have an ultimate bearing on the lives of other people. Think about it from this moment forth, in all that you do. IS IT WORTH IT...and well if the voice of wisdom says yes then your conscious is clear, run with it. If however you have doubts of whether something is worth it and you decide ignorance is bliss and you still go forth and test the fire knowing fully well that it will burn you…then well maybe you are just one of those people who need to learn things the hard way. I wish you all Wisdom. ENDS
