11 Healthy home remedies for pimples

When it comes to skin problems, it can be frustrating to walk face straight up in public with that dark acne mark on or that pointed shinny protruding in your skin. It can be a confidence shredder that can cause you to cocoon yourself in a corner especially for teenagers. For corporates in boardrooms it can get your colleagues talking, it has the potential of slightly drawing attention from that super presentation you`ve worked on for months!

Now here is a solution acquired from numerous sources compiled by Calviniah Kgautlhe: The solution is to go as natural as you can and be as gentle as you can to avoid worsening your acne condition. Use natural fresh ingredients that are without toxic chemicals.  

  1. Orange Peels

After enjoying that sweet and juicy orange, which is medically proven to work the skin from inside rich with vitamin C, save the skin peelings for the cosmetic part. Chop and grind orange peels, add a little water to make a paste and apply to the face. Leave it for 15 minutes. Then rinse with water afterwards.

  1. Ice cubes, crushed ice or cold water

It`s very, very chilly but ice or cold water can be used to quickly get rid of pimples because cold temperature helps improve blood circulation to the affected area. Wrap the ice with a soft cloth and hold it on the affected area for a few seconds, then wait a few seconds and repeat the process again. Cold water - dip face in cold water for about 25 seconds (5 dips for 25 seconds each repeated a few times every day can do wonders!) When used repeatedly on the pimples throughout the day, it helps reduce inflammation or swelling and will immediately soothe your skin.

  1. Toothpaste

Toothpaste can be used to treat pimples and it works better when used following the aforementioned remedy, ice cubes. NB: Use white toothpaste only and not gel toothpaste, apply some over the affected skin area before going to bed. Then rinse it off in the morning and you will see improvement in the swelling.

  1. Steam

This is a conventional method that is still being effectively used in beauty spas and parlours today. The steam opens your pores and allows your skin to breathe and in the process getting rid of oils, dirt and bacteria that may be trapped inside the pores with the potential of causing infections to the skin. Boil water, pour into an open container and allow the steam to get in contact with your face, afterwards wipe your face dry and apply oil free moisturiser.

5. Lemon

They are bitter. Oohh yes! Very bitter but they can be just the right solution to your pimple problem. Squeeze fresh lemon juice, then dip a clean cotton swab in the juice and apply to the pimples before going to bed, it will help pimples dry up faster. Then rinse off in the morning.

  1. Cucumber

Cucumber vegetable is not just good in salads and stews, or garnishing dishes. Now because it is a rich in potassium and vitamins A, C and E, it has a soothing effect on the skin and is often used in skin products. Cut fresh cucumber into pieces and soak in water for about an hour and drink the water, you may use it to wash your face.

  1.  Egg White

Egg white has strong healing effect on the skin. It can be used to heal scars, dark spots or blemishes. Use a cotton wool to massage the egg white on your face and leave to dry up for some time and then rinse with a soft cloth.

  1. Strawberries and apple cider Vinegar

The colorful sweet fruit could be used to make a paste with vinegar. Do this by grinding about two strawberries with half a teaspoon apple cider vinegar or any other vinegar and apply this on the affected area. Leave overnight and then rinse with water in the morning.

9. Garlic

From time immemorial, eating raw garlic is known to purify blood. With all its antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic and antioxidant qualities, garlic can help in fast treatment of pimples. It also contains sulfur which can stimulate accelerated healing of pimples. Do this by cutting a fresh garlic clove into half and rub on the pimple and leave for about five minutes before washing with lukewarm water. Repeat the treatment gently several times a day.

  1. Raw potato

Potatoes, yes a potato with its starchy components can work as anti-inflammatory especially on painful red pimples. Slice a raw potato into half and gently apply onto acne. Then wash off with water after some time, repeat about twice a day.

  1.  Honey

Dip cotton wool in honey and put it directly on the affected area and leave it on for half an hour. Then wash your face with lukewarm water. Honey is a source of natural antibiotics that can speed up the healing process, as well as help prevent infections.
