48 years- we have come a long way
Author : Kutlwano
A lot of transformation has taken place in the 48 years of Botswana's independence from the stroke of the midnight of September 30 1966 when the British flag the Union Jack was lowered to make way for the new Botswana flag, symbolising the end of the Bechuanaland Protectorate, ushering in the Republic of Botswana. From being one of the world's poorest, least developed nations, Botswana went on to earn middle income status, transforming a rural agrarian population into a modern society, with its own challenges still, but with a lot of strides made.
