I’m trying...
Author : Otshidile Onkabetse
Most of us have been doing life long enough to appreciate the beauty of a heartbeat, the smell of soil after the rain, a child`s smile, a hug that says ‘Thank you for being You` and of course many of life`s necessities such as a warm meal and a roof over your head. a lot of us have also been doing life long enough to know that sometimes you may need glasses to appreciate the rainbow after the storm, that even a beautiful rose may have a thorn in it and some roller coasters don`t seem to have a stop button and well once in a while our access cards need a little activation.
All in all we are all simply human and our hearts give our feet a rhythm to work with each morning and surely the world ought to know deep down we all long for the next person to not judge us too harshly but rather listen to the silent voice of our hearts which says: ‘I`m trying`
Life may knock you down a few times, leave you gasping for air and throw several more punches, and just when you think it couldn`t possibly get worse and that you`ve received one too many blows another one throws you off balance again and you are down again.
Even with all of that you get up in the morning, make sure the kids are neat and ready for school, you say your tear filled prayers and head on to the world of work or even sometimes to look for a job with a faux smile and a heavy heart that longs the next human heart to possibly understand that you don`t necessarily feel okay you CHOOSE to be okay because you are trying.
If we were grocery items at a local supermarket, im sure we would carry various titles and tags such as ‘I`m not okay` but I`m trying..... It`s hard but I`m trying......`I need assurance that I will make it if I keep trying`....please pray for me so I keep trying.....` I understand that you too are trying` ‘and of course the list is endless. See my point here is no one has it all together, we are simply all trying. You may not feel like it, but you have got the world to answer to. What you do or don`t do with your life will always affect the next person in your sphere of contact.
If you are simply worn out and spent and therefore stop ‘trying` then oh human you deny life to the next person who unbeknownst to you draws strength from your willingness to soldier on despite the battle that lies before you. Believe it or not your life has purpose and whether you are aware of it or not, when you continue doing life and keep trying despite the odds against you someone out there is watching and because of you they believe that life can be done.
Because you are trying they look forward to the rainbow after the storm, and because of you they have hope that there just has to be a God out there who answers prayer. They may not tell you and they may not show you but your life gives their life the pep to go on and keep trying....so for others sake if not yours hold on to that conviction that: ‘I`m trying`
Some people however stop trying. The road was too long so they stopped trying. They got to a crossroads and didn`t have the strength to try anymore, the scorching heat was too paralyzing and of course the storm dampened their light and they stopped trying to shine. No one is supposed to stop; the human body was not programmed to hit autopilot or to self-destruct. This is a race; we all need to keep trying and soldier on.
Yes...! You may have lost loved ones and there was no room for negotiation, the promotion that had your name on it was redirected, you have not had a big break in years and you are trying but you keep hitting brick walls. People keep hurting and trampling over your trust, people don`t appreciate you and what you do and take your time for granted. These all may seem like good excuses to throw in the towel. No! No! NO!!! Keep trying. Somehow we all have that DNA in us that gives us the disposition to ‘imagine`` or possibly understand even by a minimal capacity what another person could be going through. In so many ways we understand that it can be so hard and the temptation to give up can be so loud and overwhelming but please don`t give up….keep declaring ‘`I AM TRYING``
Whatever it is you are faced with that may seem too big for you believe one thing that God loves you and is not about to leave you.
He promised. What feels like an unending labyrinth, a perennial river, an unrelenting storm or a blazing hot furnace will someday make sense? All of what you are going through will not drown you, don`t allow it. In all things we have GRACE, so hold your head up high and hold on to the conviction that ‘I AM TRYING`.
You should at an individual level keep trying for in so many ways this translates to who we become as a nation. The way we do life contributes tremendously to the legacy we would later leave our generation. Remember this year 2016 is no ordinary year for our country, and by trying you are helping us drive towards being who we proclaim to be…Batswana! And therefore being Batswana we hold true to many virtues wrought in our culture and tradition.
The essence of Botho and Unity continue to be fostered in the minds of the young through the old and therefore we are not a people who should give up…we persevere like our forefathers.
The men who years ago decided they would not stop trying to emancipate their own. Today we look forward to celebrating the independence that was attained by those who ‘tried` and reaped the fruits thereof.
The days of Silver Jubilee`s are long gone, Ruby is so 2006 and now we digging for GOLD...so gear up! …keep trying, this is no time to give up on yourself, Botswana certainly needs you, because moving towards the finishing line as we celebrate ‘50 years` is a race that wouldn`t be the same without you. So soldier on...hold on to the conviction of ‘IM TRYING” because this year will be like no other. Remember we are digging for gold and we are almost 50!!!!! You better recognize! #Golden Things
