Lobatse International Beef Festival
Braving the chilly weather, multitudes of meat lovers cheerfully thronged the majestic Lobatse Town Park to enjoy the ambience and coziness of this year`s International Beef Festival.
True to its brand, the festival treats beef enthusiasts to a succulent braai pack right at the entrance before they mingle and grill on braai stands set up all over the park.
The event is characterised by a relaxed outdoor lifestyle with camping chairs, cooler boxes, stretch tents, jumping castles all spread in the fine-looking pristine Lobatse garden park. The highly successful event whose main sponsor was Brand Botswana, doubled attendance from its initial 150 people last year to a whopping 300 this year and promises to be bigger and better each year, according to the main man behind Lobatse International Beef Festival, Barolong Seboni.
“We chose Lobatse for this event because it is the capital of the beef industry ever since the 50s. It is used also to promote and celebrate Botswana Beef and the contribution it has made to the lives of Batswana and the economy.”
Most importantly, “it promotes the agricultural business sector where farmers, breeders, auctioneers and manufacturers of agricultural equipment and cattle feed exhibit products. Beef producers, purveyors and service providers present themselves directly to the trade and end users in a more focused and cost effective setting,” he says.
Seboni says people should not think only about the meat when coming to the festival since it brings a whole lot of other opportunities. “This event is not only about eating meat, it is also an educational forum on the beef and allied industries.
While Batswana as beef lovers are able to appreciate and get to know different ways of preparing and enjoying beef, they also have the chance to network and meet different business people in a decidedly ambient and relaxed outdoor atmosphere,” shares Seboni delightedly about the event
Seboni says this year, there was no cattle exhibition and auctioning as compared to last year due to clashes with farmers` schedules of events.
“Next year it will be there and the event will be bigger and better,” he promises. ENDS
