A flight like no other

Some things we can never touch, let alone see. They simply ignite our sense of feel, glow our emotion and creatively stimulate thought. They exist simply as a mystic, master piece of nature that ‘happens` to humanity to relish - LOVE. Left to unfold in its naturalness, one can peaceably revel in it. 

And so it was when the youthful, easygoing, flamboyant RB2 Eazy Drive show presenter from Kanye, Phenyo Slyvester Ntshinogang aka DJ Sly, got hitched to a strikingly gorgeous, Gorata Gontse of Ramotswa. Amid the curves of complexities of life, and the hassle and bustle of life, the two met casually in 2010 at a shopping complex in the hub of Gaborone, each having fun in the company of their friends.

“When I saw her back then in 2010, she was just someone I saw and liked. Time passed. I bumped into her after a couple of months again. It was an on and off kind of thing, re kopana through friends. We were not in contact that much. I saw her after a very long time, just a Hi! sort of thing,” says Sly with a beaming face. 

“When I saw him I did not really think much about him. He was just another guy. We bumped into each other after sometime. I can`t exactly remember when we exchanged numbers but I never really took him seriously,” says Gorata, leaning on her hubby`s shoulder with glowing eyes.

As fate would have it, two years down the line he met her again. “I was sitting alone and feeling lonely at the airport waiting for a flight to Kasane on a Friday, and when I lifted my eyes banna! I saw her looking beautiful. She walked over and said “hi!” I boarded my flight to Kasane and when I came back I saw her again. Little did I know she was a flight attendant,” shares Dj Sly excitedly. Motivated by his desire to strike, Sly strategically placed himself alone at the back of the flight to ensure he has full view of Gorata without any interruptions from friends he was with. 

“I was tired, bored, and lonely. As if she saw that, she walked over and handed me a newspaper. I lifted it up and hid my face with it and said nambara ya gago e o neng o e mphile ga e bereke, mpha number (the number that you gave me does not go through).” He whispered for fear of being caught.  

Twenty-eight year old Gorata would later give him her number where their communication and their bonding started.

From the day they met in the air, their constant communication sparked things up, then followed their seven-month old child and later marriage bliss.

True to famous poet, Rainer Maria Rilke`s words, “Once the realisation is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue, a wonderful living side by side can grow, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky.” 

Consequently and just recently, their love for each other was sealed in a colorful 400-seat wedding tent characterised by turquoise blue and bright yellow.

And magnitudes who thronged their wedding would remember Sly telling his wife through DJ Clock ft. Beatenburg in their wedding theme song that:

Likewise, giving the king of the airwaves a wedding fit for a celebrity, a galore of entertainment came from local celebrities in Vee, Dr. Vom, Lizibo, Tshepo Lesole and many others.
